Ed

Two songs that fit in somewhere in the life cycle of Editors, and meant us getting back to work with our old friend Jacknife Lee. We recorded at his studio overlooking the hills and hippy houses of Topanga Canyon, LA. It was a free-spirited couple of weeks in the sunshine with our hour long commute to the studio full of chat, mostly about tunes on the local radio stations. On our first weekend we went out to watch a football game at LAFC. It was such a great vibe, mostly because of the constant singing, jumping and chanting from the ‘3252’ Ultras down their end of the stadium. They were all clad in Black and Gold, which as it turned out, couldn’t be more appropriate for us and this greatest hits record.

There’s a gothic-ness, a full-on feeling. We like that operatic, over-the-top-ness. You watch someone like Rammstein or Muse and, done right, that stuff is fun and certainly with the chorus of Black Gold, that’s the kind of thing we were aiming for.

The Black Gold Archives

Welcome to the Black Gold Archives. Explore the timeline as it chronicles sixteen tracks that make up the Black Gold greatest hits record and discover stories from each song. Videos, photos and memories written by the band and people who lived through every era of Editors. And, most importantly, add your own memory to the archives and let the whole world share in it. Every memory that is shared will be added to the archive. A photo of a tiny, sweaty gig in the early 2000s… A grainy video taken from your old camera phone thrust in the air while you lived out your favourite festival moment… Or maybe words. A story, a moment, a memory.

Explore the Black Gold Archive at your leisure and share in the moments that crafted Editors. And don’t forget to leave something to show the world that you were part of the journey too.
