Smokers Live at Red Session 2007
From : Lemming
Dark pop subversion. After the town-by-town converting that went on for their debut record, and all the resulting promise and anticipation that was built up, Editors returned with a bona fide anthem. Smokers is a crowd pleasing singlalong with loud, sweeping guitars and melodies, a choir and some...troubling lyrics. "Say goodbye to everyone you have ever known, You are not going to see them ever again." Smokers went top 10 here in the UK and that was important. Not only did it occupy mainstream space with a not-so-covert downbeat theme, it reassured fans who had been burned in the past by giving their love to unworthy musical suitors. The sophomore slump was dispelled and they established themselves as a group you could trust. Every generation needs a band of substance that they can rely on, to help distil the often confusing things they're feeling into a soundtrack for their lives. For a lot of us, Editors did just that.
The Black Gold Archives

Welcome to the Black Gold Archives. Explore the timeline as it chronicles sixteen tracks that make up the Black Gold greatest hits record and discover stories from each song. Videos, photos and memories written by the band and people who lived through every era of Editors. And, most importantly, add your own memory to the archives and let the whole world share in it. Every memory that is shared will be added to the archive. A photo of a tiny, sweaty gig in the early 2000s… A grainy video taken from your old camera phone thrust in the air while you lived out your favourite festival moment… Or maybe words. A story, a moment, a memory.

Explore the Black Gold Archive at your leisure and share in the moments that crafted Editors. And don’t forget to leave something to show the world that you were part of the journey too.
