Where the obsession began!
From : Jon Anderson
Sunday 7th August 2005 - The Cluny Newcastle The obsession first started on MTV2 when I saw the video for Munich. I then went to Musiczone in Eldon Square and bought the album (making a schoolboy error, my copy didn’t have The Cuttings on it!). I soon realised that Munich wasn’t even the best song on the album (Fingers / You Are Fading from The Cuttings) and needed to see them live. As if by magic, they were playing a tiny venue a mile down the road 2 weeks later. I remember getting there early, watching the support acts and thinking I can’t wait for this, never been so excited for a band I have never seen before and didn’t know much about. First song, Lights... so dark, so moody, so perfect! The gig flew over and I just wanted to see them again. Luckily they played Northumbria Uni a month later on a bigger stage. Unreal! Even though I have seen them in pretty much every venue across the UK, this first gig will always be my favourite, that excitement will never be matched by anything else Thank you for all the memories... and please start playing You Are Fading again!
The Black Gold Archives

Welcome to the Black Gold Archives. Explore the timeline as it chronicles sixteen tracks that make up the Black Gold greatest hits record and discover stories from each song. Every memory that is shared will be added to the archive. A photo of a tiny, sweaty gig in the early 2000s… A grainy video taken from your old camera phone thrust in the air while you lived out your favourite festival moment… Or maybe words. A story, a moment, a memory.
